School AED Helps Saves Man's Life During Basketball Game
April 19, 2010 - Greg Long will be around to play more basketball, thanks to quick thinking and a nearby AED. He was about to step into his men's league basketball game last Sunday when he collapsed and stopped breathing. A player on the other team immediately ran to get the automated external defibrillator (AED) installed at the high school where they were playing. A coach and teacher at the local middle school, he had just been trained to use the AED in August. The Shenandoah County Public Schools have at least two AEDs in each school, and the devices were put there within the last few years.
