ZOLL Provides AEDs for the Blackmores Sydney Running Festival
September 24, 2014 –ZOLL Medical Australia teamed up with ZOLL’s parent company Asahi Kasei of Japan to sponsor the Blackmores Sydney Running Festival held on Sunday 21 September 2014.
This wonderful community event attracted 34,000 runners from across Australia and the world with a scenic course traversing some of Sydney’s most iconic and spectacular landmarks, including the Harbour Bridge and Opera House.
The Festival’s signature race, the Sydney Marathon, is renowned as a major international running event and for the first time it was broadcast live-to-air in Japan. Event Director, Wayne Larden said the event was a tremendous success. “It was a great race, a big crew of internationals entered, two records were broken, the sun’s out and everyone is happy, we had big numbers so it’s been a good day,” Larden said. “We received a Silver medal status from the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) this year, and we will qualify as a Gold medal event next year. That will rank us among events like the Boston and New York Marathons.”
ZOLL provided AED Plus® automated external defibrillators to be stationed throughout the four running circuits. First Aid officials treated minor injuries but fortunately no cardiac arrests were reported.
